Update:

The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, commonly known as a Tony Award, recognizes excellence in live Broadway theatre. The awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at an annual ceremony in Manhattan which this year will be held on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall.

The awards are named in honor of Antoinette Perry (1888–1946), who was an influential American actress, director, producer, and a dynamic leader of the American Theatre Wing. She was instrumental in the Wing’s efforts, especially during World War II, supporting the war effort through initiatives like the Stage Door Canteen.

As with the weight behind the Oscars for film, the Grammys for music, and the Emmys for television, the Tony Awards are considered the pinnacle of achievement in the American theatre industry.
