She has turned down the director almost more times than he can remember, but he’s still hoping she’ll change her mind.

Wes Anderson can’t land this Hollywood icon, no matter how many times he asks

Wes Anderson generally has no trouble assembling A-listers. His films attract Oscar winners like moths to a deliciously lit flame. But Jodie Foster? Well, that’s still a no.
While promoting The Phoenician Scheme, Anderson admitted he’s repeatedly offered Foster roles over the years. “Three movies in a row, maybe four,” he said during an interview with Collider. Each time, no dice.
Why hasn’t Wes snagged Jodie?
Anderson isn’t bitter, he seems more baffled. He says he admires her work, especially her early turn in Little Man Tate, where she played a single mom and directed the film too. “She has a sparkle, a lightness,” he said, clearly still smitten with the idea of working together.
So why hasn’t it happened? Timing, maybe. Taste, probably. Foster is famously selective, appearing in just three films since 2020. She earned an Oscar nomination for Nyad and recently premiered a French-language drama, A Private Life, at Cannes – where, as it happens, Anderson was also showing his latest offering.
Asked which roles she turned down, Anderson politely declined to answer. “Then you’d know who wasn’t the first choice,” he shrugged.
Despite the rejection streak, he hasn’t given up entirely. “I still would like to get Jodie Foster,” he said. Until then, she remains the one major star who keeps saying no to Anderson’s pastel-tinged worlds.
