Salmonella outbreak linked to recalled eggs causes health problems in dozens of people in seven different states
A huge outbreak in salmonella has caused a number of eggs to be recalled, as well as provoking a health crisis.

Trump can’t stop talking about how much he loves eggs and how many thousands he had for Easter, but now he might have to stop.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed that close to 100 people across seven states in America - Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming - have been struck down with sickness due to a salmonella outbreak linked to eggs recalled by a California-based egg distributor August Egg Company.
A total of 21 people have required hospitalisation; no fatalities have occurred.
Salmonella Enteritidis, the strain identified here, typically causes symptoms like diarrhea, fever, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and dehydration within 6–72 hours, lasting 4–7 days in most cases. The symptoms can be severe and even fatal in younger, older and weaker populations.
Upon learning of the outbreak, the FDA subsequently launched a massive recall effort, collecting 1.7 million dozen brown organic and cage-free eggs, sold under various brand names such as Walmart, Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raleys, Food 4 Less and Ralphs.
Affected eggs carried plant codes P‑6562 or CA‑5330, with dates ranging from March 4 to June 4, 2025 for California/Nevada; through June 19 at Walmart nationwide.
The company said in a statement via the FDA: “August Egg Company is not selling fresh shell eggs at this time. Our firm has voluntarily been diverting eggs to an egg-breaking plant for over 30 days, which pasteurises the eggs and kills any potential food-borne pathogens. It is important to know that when our processing plant identified this concern, we immediately began diverting all eggs from the plant to an egg-breaking facility, which pasteurizes the eggs and kills any pathogens.”
