007 First Light gets its first glimpse at the State of Play with the new James Bond adventure

IO Interactive immerses us in the origins of James Bond with a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

007 first light nuevo bond

This week IO Interactive managed to surprise us twice. First, with the reveal of the name of their next James Bond title, 007 First Light. And while we expected the title to be shown during this Friday’s Summer Game Fest, it was during State of Play that we got our first glimpse of this 007 origin adventure.

Infiltration, shootouts, interrogations, vehicle driving, and intense action scenes. All the elements that have been part of the franchise created by Ian Fleming are maintained, and it could even be said that the character design itself is very much inspired by the vision of its writer. Unlike a large number of 007-inspired titles, especially since GoldenEye for Nintendo 64, this will be a third-person action-adventure game.

What will 007 First Light be about?

“In 007 First Light, follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy,” reads its YouTube description. Within the PlayStation Blog, it is mentioned that “This is Bond as you’ve never seen him before—the youngest Bond fans have ever met. In 007 First Light, at only 26 years old.” Bond will start as a NAVY air crewman who enters the MI6 training program. Some of the series’ most iconic characters will also be present, such as M, Q, and Moneypenny. And of course, we can expect to travel part of the world within the game.

For now, we will have to wait to learn more about this version of James Bond by the creators of Hitman, as the game will arrive in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
