May has been a complicated month for Fortnite players. Beyond the controversy with Star Wars, this month indicated that it would be the great return of the game to Apple’s iOS platforms after a long legal battle. Today, finally after several last-minute changes, Fortnite is back on the iOS’ App Store in the United States, according to Epic Games.

This was announced through a post on X (formerly Twitter), where the game’s official channel announced the return on this platform. Shortly after, Tim Sweeney, president of Epic Games shared the information with the phrase “we back fam”.

The complicated return to iOS

Fortnite’s return to Apple devices has been a rocky road, to say the least. Five years ago, Apple removed Fortnite from its App Store following a legal dispute over in-game transactions, with Epic complaining about the fees Apple imposed on transactions through the App Store, and how trying to circumnavigate this breached Apple’s rules within its system.

Earlier this month, Epic had announced that after years of legal battles, Fortnite would be back on iOS in the United States after returning a few months ago in stores in Europe. However, what seemed like a triumphant return had its twist. Late last week, on May 17th, Epic said that Apple had blocked Fortnite’s return to the App Store, and the game also became unavailable on other alternative app stores in the EU.
