Cyberpunk 2077 sequel moves beyond Night City; new city teased, and rumors erupt

Mike Pondsmith, creator of the original tabletop RPG, accidentally reveals key details about the next Cyberpunk game.

Cyberpunk 2077 secuela otra ciudad confirmada adiós Night City

The sequel to CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077, currently known as Project Orion, will introduce a brand-new city alongside Night City. During an interview at the Digital Dragons conference, Mike Pondsmith let slip that the game will feature another city, describing it as “Chicago gone wrong”.

While Pondsmith didn’t confirm whether the city is literally Chicago, he emphasized that its dystopian atmosphere will feel distinct from Night City’s Blade Runner-inspired aesthetic.

What we know so far

  • Night City will still be present, but the sequel will take players somewhere new.
  • The new city will have a gritty, urban feel, resembling a corrupt version of Chicago.
  • CD Projekt Red’s Boston studio is leading development on Project Orion, with 84 developers currently working on the game.

When will the Cyberpunk sequel be released?

Project Orion is still in early development, meaning a release date is years away.

CD Projekt Red is currently focused on The Witcher 4, so Cyberpunk fans may have to wait until late 2027 or beyond for the sequel.
