FBI issues warning to Chrome, Safari, and Edge users: beware of these websites
A series of websites flagged by the FBI as potentially harmful.
You can never be too careful on the internet, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) doesn’t hold back when it comes to offering advice to keep us safe. This time, the warning is about dangerous websites that pose a threat to both smartphone users and personal computer owners. These sites are designed to steal passwords, financial information, and digital wallets. What kind of websites are we talking about? They are online file converters that exploit the conversion process to load malware onto the devices of those who use them.
The FBI has emphasized that “the best way to thwart these scammers is by educating people so they don’t fall victim in the first place. If you or someone you know has been affected by this scam, we encourage you to file a report and take steps to protect your assets. Every day, we work to hold these scammers accountable and provide victims with the resources they need.”
Websites to avoid, according to the FBI
Kaspersky, a Russian company specializing in cybersecurity, highlights that “online converters are a tempting but dangerous way to change a file’s format.” These websites may seem harmless but can be extremely damaging. The FBI advises users to “take a moment, slow down, and think. Be mindful of your online actions and the risks you might be exposed to.”
