This 2025 will be the year in which the integration of artificial intelligence services will make the difference between high-end smartphones, especially in the Android ecosystem, where most of them share Google’s tools. In this context, the Chinese brand HONOR wants to stand out with an ambitious proposal: the HONOR ALPHA PLAN, an investment of 10 billion dollars over five years to consolidate its leadership in AI. Its first big step this year is the HONOR Magic7 Pro, a device that aims to become the best Android on the market thanks to its power, customization with MagicOS and smart tools. After several weeks of use, here is our verdict.

Cameras with more than just AI

The HONOR Magic7 Pro features a triple rear camera system: 50 MP main wide-angle (f/1.4-f/2.0, OIS), 50 MP ultra wide-angle (f/2.0) and an amazing 200 MP telephoto (f/2.6, 3x optical zoom, up to 100x digital, OIS). In video, it allows 4K recording at 60 fps and has a solid stabilization system.

Methodology of the photographs

As we usually do in this type of analysis, all photos were taken with the autofocus function in standard mode to see how it performed in different lighting conditions.

Night photography is undoubtedly one of its main strengths, for example this shot was taken in motion.

Using the zoom shows excellent stabilization, which even improves the adjustments I made using the AI.

One of the most complex photos we were able to take was of targets in extremely dark conditions with a backlit neon light source.

The photos with very low light and movement was something that really surprised us.

In normal conditions, this equipment gave us very impressive results.

The selfie camera performed equally well in low light thanks to its ultra-bright 50MP AI-enhanced portrait mode.

The HONOR Magic7 Pro has features that can be used by content creators, as the shots are AI-optimized, especially in motion shots.

Its high-speed burst shooting is perfect for getting the best shot of a moving object.

The camera also has an aperture mode, movie, slow motion, panorama, light painting, fast motion, watermark templates, super macro mode, high resolution, multi-video, a special stage mode for concerts, plays and night events. It also has a document scanner and 5 story templates.

In video, it can record up to 4K at 60fps with very impressive results.

Camera score: 9.5

Display

This model sticks with the 6.8-inch OLED with 1280 x 2800 resolution with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 1-120Hz refresh rate, 453 ppi, brightness up to 5000 nits HDR and 1600 nits max brightness across the display with Dolby Vision, as well as HDR Vivid. It has PWM 4320Hz dimming and other settings with AI to help with eye care.

Its display allowed us to play content with HDR on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix with Dolby Vision, YouTube up to 2160 at 60 frames per second, and apps like Disney+ in HD. Its resolution customization section allows you to manually adjust to:

  • High 2800 x 1280
  • Standard 2450 x 1120
  • Low 2100 x 960

Or use Smart Mode to set it automatically. The refresh rate can be set to dynamic, high (120 Hz) or standard 60 Hz.

Its color adjustment mode has two options:

  • Normal with standard colors (sRGB or P3)
  • and Vivid.

It is also possible to select the color temperature between standard, warm or cool.

Performance

With the new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 12GB of RAM (plus 12GB virtual with HONOR RAM Turbo) and 512GB of internal storage, the Magic7 Pro’s performance is flawless. In demanding games like Fortnite, it reached over 90 fps with graphics at maximum, even while live-streaming on Twitch.

Compatibility with assistants, smart devices, and other ecosystems was smooth and seamless.

Performance score: 10

Audio

The improvements in artificial intelligence are also noticeable in calls, where the volume adapts to the environment. The stereo speakers deliver powerful and balanced sound with customizable profiles: premium bass, 3D surround, and standard.

When using headphones, you have several sound effects such as DTS: X Ultra, which provides a kind of panoramic surround sound. In this section you have 5 sound styles: Standard, Music, Movie, Game or Custom, the latter with sections to emulate the sound away, front or traditional way, also maintains customization of treble, bass, vocals or equalization to taste.

A section we have always liked is that it maintains the sound settings by headphone type, with the possibility of selecting between in-ear, on-ear, in-ear or branded headphones with customized profiles per model.

It also integrates HONOR Spatial Sound, which emulates distance and direction when playing music. In this area, Spatial Sound creates a three-dimensional surround sound experience.

If you prefer a purer sound, you can turn off these sound effects.

Its external stereo speakers have a very good volume level with powerful bass, as well as spatial sound with a good balance of treble and bass.

Audio score: 9.5

Battery

With 5850 mAh, this device can easily last a long day. The new HONOR E2 chip improves power efficiency and extends battery life. Fast charging reaches 100W wired and 80W wireless, with reversible charging included.

Battery modes allow you to prioritize performance or savings, and the Application Manager helps you control consumption.

Battery rating: 10

Accesories

It includes a HONOR SuperCharge charger, a USB-C cable, a SIM tool and a silicone case. The latter is functional, if a bit basic compared to the device’s premium design.

Accessories score: 9

Design

The design is a continuation of the previous model, with subtle improvements in materials and durability. The camera module is eye-catching, and the back feels solid, though prone to fingerprints. The screen is protected by the HONOR NanoCrystal Shield, with SGS 5-star certification for drop resistance.

It has IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance, although we would have liked a more premium case to go with its design.

Full screen

This version came in two colors, Lunar shadow Gray and Black.

Design Rating: 8

Operating system

Its MagicOS 9 customization layer on Android 15 is no longer so subtle, although it has retained the best of the previous version, it has important additions that go far beyond what other devices in the same range offer.

Starting with security, unlocking now works much better, even in low light, thanks to its 3D facial recognition. Its AI engine for photography does an excellent job with maximum zoom photos, selfies, low-light shots, as well as burst shots.

The Magic Portal allows you to access information or applications in an agile way with a simple circular gesture, but one of the functions that shines the most is the deepfake detection to prevent this type of fraud.

The interpreter, on the other hand, worked great every time we used it, but what we liked best was the Notes application, which allowed us to literally record precise dictations in different noise conditions, something that facilitated our work in reporting.

Gemini, on the other hand, worked without major hiccups, and the device did not crash during the entire period of analysis, showing good stability.

Operating system score: 10

Conclusion

The HONOR Magic7 Pro maintains a winning formula and takes it to the next level by integrating artificial intelligence in a useful and natural way in all its areas. It is not a revolution, but a solid evolution that makes it one of the best Androids of the year, ideal for those looking for performance, photography, multimedia content and a good dose of intelligence.
