Marvel Studios skips keynote presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2025
We’d better get to the movies to see Fantastic Four.
San Diego Comic-Con, one of the most important entertainment events of the summer, will be missing one of its most notable panels this year. Although Marvel Studios will still have a presence on the show floor, they will not be in the legendary Hall H to talk about upcoming productions.
According to Variety, Marvel will have a smaller presence at this year’s Comic-Con. This is due to the recent change in the release date of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which has been pushed back from May to December 2026. Coordinating the presence of so many celebrities in San Diego alongside interrupting production in London is complex and costly, so it seems the strategy is to concentrate those promotional efforts next year, when the film’s release is closer.
Although Marvel Studios will be absent, the Marvel Universe will not be completely unattended. Marvel Entertainment will be present with panels and events dedicated to their comics and games. They will also have a booth in the exhibition area to promote the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is due to be released in cinemas on the Friday of the annual convention.
This isn’t the first time that Marvel Studios has skipped Comic-Con
While Marvel and its MCU have always had a special presence in cinema, there is no need to be alarmed, as this is not the first time they have decided not to attend such an important convention. Marvel Studios has previously opted out of the convention, for example in 2023 due to Hollywood guild strikes and in 2021 and 2020 due to the pandemic. They were also absent in 2018, 2015 and 2011, usually due to a lack of significant material or news to share given their production schedules.
San Diego Comic-Con 2025 will run from July 24 til 27 at San Diego Convention Center.
