Neither tariffs nor production problems, this is why Switch 2 sales will be “conservative”

The company estimates selling 15 million Switch 2 consoles in the current fiscal year.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have been strong for the past few weeks. The next Nintendo console has sold out in many stores, which could mean it will be a real success. The company itself estimates that it will sell around 15 million Switch 2 consoles within its current fiscal year. While this is a high figure, some analysts consider it “conservative,” as it matches the numbers of the original Switch.

What’s behind Nintendo Switch 2’s “conservative” sales figures?

These figures were mentioned in a recent Q&A session with investors. While many claimed it was due to the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa denied this, stating that it was not due to the high console system. He also acknowledged that, despite the strong pre-order performance of the console, investors should not get carried away.

Nintendo Switch 2 is priced relatively high compared to Nintendo Switch, so we recognize that there are corresponding challenges to early adoption,” Furukawa said. “We are taking steps like bundling software with the hardware to accelerate adoption in the first fiscal year, aiming to get off to the same start we did with Nintendo Switch.” To this, Furuwaka also mentioned, “Even if there is momentum around the launch, we know it will not be easy to keep that momentum going over the long term through the holiday season and beyond.”

As for other factors that could affect the forecast, Furukawa did not mention production capacity or economic factors as influencing these numbers. “The tariff situation in the U.S. or a possibility of a recession did not affect our sales volume forecast either,” he said.

Nintendo has already been in the spotlight for premium game prices like Mario Kart World. The Switch 2 is set to launch at $449.99 in the US without a game and $499.99 bundled with Mario Kart World.
