Nintendo surprises with a giant Mario Kart: the largest open map you’ve ever seen

The new Nintendo Switch 2 racing game amazes with its ambition and scale.

Mario Kart World

Since we saw Mario Kart World, we came across an open world where the iconic characters of the Mushroom Kingdom could drive without limits. And although we already wish we had our hands on the game, we have the comments of several colleagues and players who have already gotten their hands on this title. And they’ve all come to one conclusion: it’s a bigger game in scope than we imagined.

Just how big is the Mario Kart World map?

According to several media outlets, the Mario Kart World map is huge, with some even comparing its size to that of other racing games such as The Crew Motorfest and Forza Horizon 5. It has generally been said that traveling from one end of the map to the other in this Nintendo Switch 2 launch game takes approximately 9–10 minutes.

How does Mario Kart World compare to other open-world games? The How Big is the Map? channel reports the following times on these games:

A detail to be specified is that, of course, it is not the same to use the Mario Kart World karts as the supercars of the aforementioned games. Even the physics between both games are extremely different, so they also represent factors that can modify the game time.

Meristation’s First Impressions

In their initial impressions of Mario Kart World, our colleagues in Spain wrote, “Mario Kart World is immense in content and deep in gameplay. There are elements that touch the right keys to consider it as the evolution, with all the letters, of the saga. It’s not an in-between installment; it’s a step forward that sets a precedent for what’s to come in the coming years.” Stay tuned to Meristation USA for a more complete review of Nintendo’s racing game.

Mario Kart World is now available on Nintendo Switch 2 as one of its first launch games.
