Nintendo Switch 2 has an ace up its sleeve that smashes Steam Deck
The Switch 2 screen hides a reason why it looks so good.

One element of Nintendo Switch 2 has stood out above the rest: how good the screen looks. Having discarded the OLED panel in the base model seemed like a downer, but the company has made up for it with a quality LCD screen, although the secret lies in the pixel density.
Pixel density indicates how many pixels are in each inch. The more there are, the sharper the image it displays. Screen size plays a role in the amount, but some panels offer denser options than others.
Nintendo Switch 2 makes a difference in the display: this is its pixel density
We only have to put Nintendo Switch 2 in front of Steam Deck to see that the former’s panel will be sharper than Valve’s handheld PC. At 7.9″, Switch 2 has 279 ppi (pixels per inch) on an LCD panel at native 1080p. Steam Deck, on the other hand, offers at 7″ just 215 ppi at native 800p resolution.
Some may think that Steam Deck OLED may have more, but nothing could be further from the truth: at 7.4″ it displays 204 dpi at the same resolution as the base model. The best example to check this is in text. If the shape of the letters is not perfectly outlined, it is that the screen does not give more.

Precisely the pixel density was one of the hot topics of Nintendo Switch. When the Lite model was released back in 2019, it was the ‘little one’ of the house that showed a sharper screen than the other models. If the Lite offered 266 ppi at 5.5″, the original model did the same at 237 ppi at 6.2″. Not even the OLED, with 210 dpi at 7″, could stand up to it. In fact, games like Animal Crossing and Fortnite looked significantly better on Lite.
For the rest of the consoles (or PC’s) laptops, things change. Lenovo Legion GO currently has the highest pixel density of the mentioned platforms, but it also has the largest screen: 8.8″ at 343 ppi at 1600p resolution. Curious decision to keep such a high target. On the other hand, Asus Rog Ally has a 7″ screen at 315 ppi using a native 1080p resolution. The most similar to Switch 2, except that Nintendo’s console mounts a more modern LCD panel.
