Nintendo
Nintendo Switch 2 will require an important day 1 patch to unlock everything from backward compatibility to the use of game-key cards
A day one patch will be indispensable to access its key features.

The excitement of having the Nintendo Switch 2 in your hands is about to arrive. But before you can start enjoying the console, you will need to download a 1 patch to get the most out of it.
With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 in some regions of the world, the patch is now available. This patch will be required to play Nintendo Switch 1 titles, online games, GameChat, GameShare, enter the Nintendo eshop, and even to play some of the Switch 2 titles. In other words, it is an extremely important patch that you will not be able to skip in order to enjoy, and that owners of a Switch 2 will surely have no problem downloading it.
What features does the Nintendo Switch 2 update 20.1.1 add?
According to the Nintendo Switch 2 support page, these are the features that are enabled with this patch:
- Use of compatible Nintendo Switch software
- Nintendo Switch Online
- GameChat
- GameShare
- System transfer from Nintendo Switch
- Virtual game cards
- Nintendo eShop
- News
- Upload of screenshots and videos to the server
- Nintendo Switch App on a smart device is needed to view and download screenshots and videos uploaded to the server
- Link with the smart device apps Nintendo Switch Parental Controls and Nintendo Switch App
It is striking that many of the console’s new features, such as GameChat, or even the use of game-key cards require this update. This is probably due to issues such as adjustments coming to consoles that are probably months old since they were manufactured. But hey, once you have updated your console you will be able to play all available games.
