Nintendo’s warnings for Switch 2 buyers; how to make your console last

Nintendo has released official guidelines to maximize the lifespan of the Switch 2, covering maintenance, cleaning, and key precautions.

With Nintendo Switch 2 launching on June 5, excitement is high. However, Nintendo has issued important recommendations to ensure the console remains in optimal condition.

The official manual, available on Nintendo’s website, outlines essential care tips, including:

  • Temperature limits – Operates best between 5°C and 35°C. Avoid extreme heat or cold to prevent component degradation.
  • Humidity and condensation – Keep the console away from moisture and sudden temperature changes. If condensation occurs, turn off the console and let it dry.
  • Dust and smoke – Store the console in a protective case to prevent dust buildup.
  • Ventilation – Never block air vents on the console or dock. If dust accumulates, use a vacuum to clean the vents.
  • Power adapter safety – Keep the power cable clear to prevent overheating and fire risks.
  • Voltage compatibility – Ensure the correct voltage for your region. Some users may need a voltage converter.
  • Battery maintenance – Charge the console at least once every six months to prevent permanent battery degradation.
  • Screen protection – The built-in protective film prevents glass shards from scattering if damaged—do not remove it.

Additional precautions

Nintendo also advises:

  • Unplugging the power adapter when not in use for long periods to avoid power surges.
  • Cleaning the console and accessories with a soft, slightly damp cloth—never use solvents.
  • Ensuring enough space while playing, especially with Joy-Con 2 motion controls, to avoid accidents.

Why these guidelines matter

While Switch 2 is designed for durability, following these simple precautions can extend its lifespan and prevent costly repairs. With high summer temperatures in some regions, Nintendo warns against using the console outdoors in extreme heat.
