No camera for the Nintendo Switch 2? No problem, as you can use this gadget

The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 has prompted all kinds of tests: quality of games, battery life, and more. This new console comes with its own accessories, including the Joy-Con 2. However, the accessory that draws the most attention is the USB camera, which allows you to use the new GameChat feature for group audio and video calls. Although we already knew that the Switch 2 could use third-party USB cameras, some users have shown just how creative they can be.

According to the YouTube channel Will It Work?, the Nintendo Switch 2 is compatible with a USB camera we might not have thought to use—our own smartphone. However, connecting it is not so easy. You will not be able to use your gadget’s cable, but rather a special one.

How to use my smartphone as a Nintendo Switch 2 camera?

If you have an old smartphone with a good camera that you want to put to use, this is what you need. First, connect your smartphone to an HDMI capture cable using a USB-C to HDMI cable. This will allow the Switch 2 to detect your smartphone as a USB camera. The channel also recommends using the TrueVistage app, which puts the phone camera in full-screen mode without buttons so that it captures everything without any extra buttons appearing.

According to Will It Work’s links, buying all of these cables will cost you around $31, which is less than the $54.99 price tag of the Switch 2 Camera. Since your smartphone can be used in more places than the Nintendo camera, this is another option if you want to save about $24.
