Say goodbye to drifting on the Switch 2? Here’s what Nintendo has to say about the new Joy-Con sticks

The people behind Nintendo’s new hardware reveal the main differences from the original Switch.

Nintendo Switch 2 adiós drift novedades mejoras

The full reveal of Nintendo Switch 2 gave us a detailed look at the company’s plan for the coming years. The successor to one of the best-selling consoles in history has several goals. The first, and most obvious, is to solve the famous control stick drift. Since 2017, Nintendo remains embroiled in criticism before the numerous errors suffered by the Joy Con after use. Everything indicates that the company has said “goodbye” to this problem. Remember that it will go on sale next June 5.

This is what Nintendo says about the solution to drift on the Switch 2

Our colleague Fran Serrano attended a conference during the first hands-on of the machine in front of those responsible. This is what he tells us in his impressions: “The main responsible for the design of the machine confirmed that part of the best also go in the direction of eliminating the risk of the dreaded drift that has embittered more than one in the original Switch”.

In their detailed overview on Nintendo’s website, Kouchi Kawamoto, producer of Nintendo Switch 2, notes that the “Joy-Con 2″ have been “re-designed from the ground up.” “Compared to the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers, the control sticks are larger, more stable and move more smoothly.”

Although the company itself has not confirmed it, leaks over the past few months have suggested that Nintendo has replaced the physical mechanism used in the previous generation with a magnetic solution. The solution is called “Hall Effect” and is a concept that more and more controllers are adopting. More expensive, yes, but it pays off in the long run. On the other hand, Kawamoto also notes that the Switch 2 Pro controller’s levers have been improved and are “quieter” when in use.
