The Dance of the Dragons continues as ‘House of the Dragon’ announces the start of production on Season 3
The Civil War for the Iron Throne continues.

‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 left us with a huge cliffhanger, and we were looking forward to war, violence, and destruction. Although this conflict is still a long way off, HBO is already starting production on what will be the third season.
Through a video on the series official X (formerly Twitter) account, Emma D’Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen, holds the clapperboard with which the filming of the season begins. “House of the Dragon is back in production,” the actress announces, mentioning that she is on the first day of filming season 3.
How will ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 begin?
Although filming has just begun, the path for Season 3 has already been laid out. In mid-February, EVP and Head of Drama, HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, revealed how the series will begin. And from the very first episode, there will be the expected Battle of the Gullet, one of the bloodiest and most violent in the saga.
“I’m really excited. I think you’re going to be in for a great surprise on how we start the [season] with an exciting battle,” she said. “I’m so glad we waited because it’s going to be better than ever, and I don’t think we had the time at that point to do what it is that we’ve achieved now this season.”
The Battle of the Gullet is a naval battle that pitted the Greens against the Blacks, the two warring factions during the Dance of the Dragons. The battle left thousands dead in a conflict that went beyond soldiers and civilians, with the Targaryen family also taking casualties. The reason this battle was absent from last season was because showrunner Ryan Condal felt it needed “the time and space it deserves.”
However, ‘House of the Dragon’ will be a long time in coming, with a scheduled release date of 2026. For now, 2025 will see the premiere of another Game of Thrones spin-off, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.’
