The Elder Scrolls Online prepares for a promising future with a revolutionary change
Zenimax Online unveils a game-changing update for The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), replacing the annual expansion model with seasons packed with new content and exciting features.

The Elder Scrolls Online is revisiting its original storyline, continuing the narrative that captivated players over a decade ago. The new season, Seasons of the Worm Cult, introduces the tropical island of Solstice, where High Elves and Argonians govern the city of Sunport.

Familiar characters like Razum-Dar, Vanus Galerion, and Gabrielle return to face Molag Bal and the Worm Cult, who seek revenge and aim to harvest souls for dark purposes.
This Elder Scrolls Online’s new and fresh narrative twist takes players to unexplored locations in Tamriel, offering thrilling adventures on an island hiding peril beneath its paradise-like exterior.

Goodbye annual expansions, hello seasonal passes
Zenimax is replacing its criticized annual expansion model with a seasonal pass system. This one-time purchase includes all content released during the season, such as story updates, dungeons, and additional features, saving players from having to buy separate content packs.
However, the seasonal pass won’t be included in the ESO Plus subscription, and no extra benefits will come with its monthly membership.

The first season, running until late 2025, features:
- New storylines.
- Dungeon packs.
- Collaborative world events.
Zenimax also plans to revisit older expansions through “Remix Seasons”, introducing updated content for long-time players.
Exciting new features for players
In June 2025, ESO will introduce multiclassing, allowing players to combine abilities from different classes on a single character. This enhancement reduces reliance on alternate characters and provides more gameplay flexibility.

Additionally, Zenimax is:
- Revamping the PC patch installer.
- Improving graphics.
- Refining combat mechanics, based on community feedback.
Players can look forward to a collaborative event mid-year, where they’ll unite across servers to breach the Writhing Wall—a magical barrier dividing Solstice—and confront the Worm Cult. This event promises large-scale battles and dynamic changes to the region.
The future of ESO
Bethesda has committed to fostering a closer relationship with the community and listening to player feedback. Upcoming updates include:
- New companions.
- Crafting recipes.
- Archaeology.
- PvP improvements, aiming to revive the thrill of faction battles in Cyrodiil.

While the price of the seasonal pass remains undisclosed, Zenimax assures players that ongoing updates will continue to enhance Bethesda’s game experience and its technology, particularly in areas like Sunport and dynamic events.
