Marvel
The Marvel animated series you probably haven’t heard of: It’s ultra-violent and stars a monkey
An ape with a thirst for revenge and a ghost as a mentor: with you, Hit-Monkey.

Since the MCU began, Marvel Studios has taken risks knowing that not all its characters are household names like Captain America, Iron Man, or Spider-Man. In more recent years, characters such as Shang-Chi, Eternals, Ms. Marvel or the now well-known Guardians of the Galaxy, have been bets that, although not all have been as successful as expected, they represent the broad lore within the comics of the House of Ideas. But among so many proposals, there are also some that have flown well under the radar, and one of these cases is Hit-Monkey.
What is Hit-Monkey about?
Released in 2021 on Hulu, Hit-Monkey adapts the character created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić, who debuted in 2010 in the comic Hit-Monkey #1. Since then, his path crossed with the likes of Deadpool and Spider-Man in Deadpool issues #19-21.
The story begins when Bryce is injured and cared for by a tribe of monkeys in the mountains. One of them, reluctant to help, watches his training intently. When Bryce’s enemies return and kill everyone, including him, that monkey survives and, armed with Bryce’s guns and accompanied by his spirit, sets out on a violent crusade of revenge. This Japanese macaque, turned professional killer, follows a code of honor: he only eliminates other killers. In the animated series, adapted by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, the monkey is guided by the ghost of Bryce, a betrayed killer whose methods he has learned to imitate.
Although not part of the MCU, the series includes characters from the Marvel universe such as Silver Samurai, Lady Bullseye and Fat Cobra. An image of Kingpin even appears in episode 5. In the second season, Mephisto is added, who allows Bryce’s ghost to manifest in the real world, taking the supernatural to a new level.
