The Outer Worlds 2 confirms release date and claims the RPG throne in 2025

The Outer Worlds 2 is shaping up to be Xbox’s biggest RPG of 2025, and its latest showcase proves why. During the Xbox Games Showcase, Obsidian Entertainment confirmed that the game will launch on October 29, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The new trailer highlights:
- Expanded combat mechanics, blending real-time action with enhanced tactical RPG elements.
- A fresh sci-fi setting, introducing Arcadia, a new planetary system replacing Halcyon.
- Faction-driven storytelling, featuring rival groups like the Protectorate and Earth Directorate.
- New weapons, including explosive gel, a shrink ray, and cryo-based attacks.
- Rift anomalies, which reshape the ecosystem and threaten entire colonies.
The game will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title, ensuring accessibility for all players.
Major RPG highlights from Summer Game Fest 2025
While The Outer Worlds 2 led the RPG lineup, several other major titles made waves during Summer Game Fest, including:
- Resident Evil 9: Requiem closed the show with a stunning reveal. Capcom confirmed that players will explore a nuked Raccoon City in Resident Evil 9: Requiem, launching February 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
- Stranger Than Heaven—A mysterious RPG set in 1943. Formerly known as Project Century, this Yakuza creators’ RPG immerses players in wartime Japan. No release date or platforms have been confirmed yet.

- Sonic Racing CrossWorlds—A high-speed multiverse showdown. Arriving September 25, 2025, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds features cross-platform multiplayer, aerial racing, and guest characters like Joker (Persona 5) and Ichiban Kasuga (Like a Dragon).
- Lies of P: Overture—The expansion is available now. Neowiz dropped a shadow launch for Lies of P: Overture, expanding the soulslike RPG with new bosses, areas, and lore. Available now for $29.99 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
