‘The Witcher 4′ gets a sneak peek at an exciting tech demo, harnessing the power of the Unreal Engine
CD Projekt Red gives us a glimpse of the potential of Unreal Engine 5.6 with The Witcher 4 in the State of Unreal.

This morning was held the State of Unreal, one of the events of the Unreal Fest, whose objective, as its name suggests, is to show the latest advances of this graphic engine to the world. One of the most interesting guests was CD Projekt Red, which had the opportunity to show the progress of Unreal Engine 5.6 in a technical demonstration of The Witcher 4, although it should be noted that this is simply a technical demonstration and not gameplay, so it will not look exactly like the game once it is released. Mind you, this demo was played on a PS5.
The world of The Witcher, more and more real with Unreal Engine
The tech demo, lasting around 10 minutes, follows Ciri through the forests and caves, returning from a mission, until she arrives with her faithful horse Kelpie. The video goes on to show many of the engine’s advancements, from the horse’s realistic muscles to the smallest details of the leaves on the trees.
Moving on to the demo, we see Ciri start to walk into a bustling marketplace full of people — and even a bear — where she eventually collides with a man, causing his apples to fall and prompting a child to come and steal them. We’re told that such interactions will be found throughout The Witcher 4. Beyond its impressive visuals, the demo also shows how the world begins to react.
The demo goes on to show the various reactions and activities of the non-player characters (NPCs) in the town, including merchants, jugglers, shoppers, and children running around.
The first trailer for The Witcher 4 was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, confirming the theory that Ciri would be the protagonist. There is still no estimated release date as yet.
