Update:

LeBron James exited his 22nd year in the NBA, a 103-96 first-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, with a swollen leg from a knee-to-knee collision.

After the game, a crestfallen James was put up in front of the press, who asked about his future at the top of elite level basketball in the US.

“I don’t know,” James admitted to reporters when asked how much longer he planned to play before retiring. “I don’t have an answer to that. Something I’ll sit down with my family, my wife and my support group and kind of just talk through it and see what happens. And just have a conversation with myself on how long I want to continue to play.

James on future: ‘we’ll see’

“I don’t know the answer to that right now, to be honest. So we’ll see.”

“It’s a business,” James added. “So you don’t know what the roster will look like next year besides the guys that [are] locked into contracts. S---, I got a lot to think about myself. So I don’t know what the roster will look like. I don’t know where I stand right now.”

The comments on his future cause fingers to scrawl across excited keyboards like fiery ants, and James was asked to clarify: “Just continuing to play, I don’t know where I’m at,” he told ESPN. “That’s what that is. Not coming back to play here. Just playing, period.”

ESPN report that James has a player option to return to the Lakers for the 2025-26 season that is worth $52.6 million; he must opt into by June 29 or, failing that, become a free agent.
