Patrick Mahomes may be fully associated with the world of NFL but his mind stretches across several others – as you’ll know if you’ve ever glanced at his social media timeline. On Thursday night there was a quick-fire double example of that.

Haliburton rumbles Thunder

First up, the basketball. He didn’t need a full sentence to capture the chaos of Tyrese Haliburton’s game-winner. Just one word, blasted out on X (while the embers were settling on Musk’s outburst) after the Pacers stunned the Thunder in Game 1 of the NBA Finals: “Helly!?!?”

That was the reigning NFL MVP’s instant reaction to Haliburton’s cold-blooded jumper with 0.3 seconds left – a shot that gave Indiana its first and only lead of the night and sealed a wild 111-110 comeback win. Our Dane was all over it and it was Haliburton’s fourth go-ahead bucket in the final five seconds of a playoff game. Only LeBron James has more.

Bobby Witt Jr “like Superman”

As the Pacers celebrations continued, Mahomes was still watching sport, and reposted a clip of Royals star Bobby Witt Jr’s ridiculous diving catch against the Cardinals. As the commentator said, “Like Superman flying through the sky.” Witt’s defense helped seal a 7-5 win for Kansas City, even as his bat continues to cool off compared to last season.
