When was the last time the Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup?
The Panthers and Oilers meet again, in a rematch of one of the best NHL Finals in recent years.

The Florida Panthers aren’t strangers to the ultimate prize in professional ice hockey—the Stanley Cup. Despite their relatively short history in the NHL, the Panthers have made significant strides and come tantalizingly close to lifting the coveted trophy. It all changed last year, as Florida finally captured the title in an unforgettable final — beating the same team they’ll now face again: the Edmonton Oilers.
The Panthers joined the NHL as an expansion team in the 1993-94 season. Under coach Roger Neilson, they quickly established themselves as a competitive force. In just their third season, they reached the Stanley Cup Final—an impressive feat for a young franchise.
The Florida Panthers: A Quest for the Stanley Cup
In 1996, the Panthers embarked on an improbable playoff run. Led by captain Scott Mellanby, goalie John Vanbiesbrouck, and winger Ray Sheppard, they defeated the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins to reach the finals. Facing the Colorado Avalanche, they fought valiantly but ultimately fell short, losing in four games.
Fast forward to 2023. The Panthers surprised everyone with a remarkable postseason performance. Behind the stellar play of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and the offensive contributions of Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau, they upset higher-seeded teams. Their journey to the finals captured fans’ hearts, but once again, they couldn’t clinch the Cup, losing to the Vegas Golden Knights.
It was in 2024 when the Florida Panthers finally lifted the Stanley Cup, in the franchise’s 30th year. And it was an epic Final against the Edmonton Oilers — the Panthers needed all seven games to defeat the Canadian team.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the series, it looked like the title was all but secured. But the Oilers mounted a stunning comeback, tying the series 3-3 and forcing a decisive Game 7. A historic 2-1 win sealed the Cup for Florida, taking it from the cold north to the sun-soaked south.

Now, in 2025, the Oilers are out for revenge. The Stanley Cup Final rematch begins on Wednesday, June 4. It marks the Panthers’ third consecutive Final — and the fourth in their history.
